On the property of an existing summerhouse from the 1960s, this additional structure was created for year-round use to meet a growing family’s demands for comfort and flexibility. Along with a tall vine-covered fence and a tiny guest house, the two houses now compose a kind of courtyard arrangement. Thoroughly considered fenestration create a sense of privacy within and around the new house, despite its close proximity to neighbors. The architectural characteristics of the new house with its archetypical house-form gently ironizes the romantic conventions of its built surroundings, still respecting a general appreciation of the familiar without seeking confrontation.
